Belconnen, Canberra Belconnen
Zone Bowling & Timezone Belconnen sits at the eastern end of Emu Bank, a few minutes’ walk from Westfield Belconnen and Lake Ginninderra. It is a single site running two brands under one roof — the bowling alley and the arcade — which is what makes it work as a party venue: guests move between activities rather than staying seated for hours.
The party room is the bookable space. It takes up to 60 people seated or standing, is air-conditioned, has flatscreen TV screens and a PA system, and can be decorated to match a theme. It also splits into two smaller rooms, which suits a group that wants food staged in one half and presents or games in the other. There are two party rooms on site in total.
Around it are 24 full-sized tenpin lanes with a glow-in-the-dark setting, Spin Zone bumper cars, more than 75 arcade machines including VR titles, a Winner’s Vault prize redemption counter, a chill-out area and a licensed bar and café.
Catering is in-house — outside food is not permitted, with birthday cakes the one exception, and there is no BYO alcohol. Adult birthday packages run from Alley Action at $35 per person (a game of bowling, pizzas and a potato platter) through Bowl It Up at $50 to Elite Roller at $80, which adds a one-hour drink package, arcade play and a fuller food spread. The kids’ package starts at $45 per person and includes a dedicated party host, 45 minutes in the party area, an activity, 45 minutes of arcade play, a kids’ meal, Powertickets and a take-home lanyard. The venue’s alcohol licence runs to 11pm.
The whole centre can be booked out for larger events — up to 440 standing or 275 seated — which is the option for company fun days and school or club celebrations.
For photography, this is a high-energy, low-light room: neon, lane lighting and arcade screens do the work, and the good shots are candid ones on the lanes and in the games floor rather than posed group portraits. Bumper cars have a minimum height of 112 cm and a minimum age of 4. Parking is free both on site and on the street, the venue is on the ground floor and wheelchair accessible, and bus routes 2, 3, 4, 8 and 47 stop nearby.
